Design Analysis

Notes

I’m reading Change by Design by Tim Brown…

Tim describes three types of analysis in Design work, and it really applies to research too:

  1. Physical Analysis, how do we negotiate the experience physically
  2. Cognitive Analysis, how do make sense of the experience
  3. Emotional Analysis, how does the experience leave us feeling

Imagine you are designing a new magazine – and you’re researching responses to it… this model would be a helpful tool in understanding how well you’re doing. 1. What’s it like to hold, touch, see. 2. How are people navigating and getting around the work, what are they noticing, is it having the impact I want 3. How much are they enjoying this and what benefit is it bringing them?

Neat and simple, a good way to order our thinking when we are assessing products, services and experiences
